Now that your little bundle of joy has arrived, you and your spouse have a
number of tasks to complete. At our free private sessions and seminars some of
the topics we discuss will include registering your child's birth and applying
for the tax credits.
Birth Registration and Social Insurance NumberThe Newborn Registration
Service online is the easiest way to register your baby's birth and fastest way
to apply for their Birth Certificate, Canada Child Tax Benefit and Social
Insurance Number all at the same time.
You may also obtain the Statement of Live Birth and the Social Insurance Number
form and apply for the Canada Child Tax Benefit at any Service Canada location.
As well, these forms can be printed from the
www.ontario.ca website and
mailed to the government office.
The Canada Child Tax Benefit (CCTB)The CCTB is a tax-free monthly
payment made to eligible families to help them with the cost of raising children
under age 18. You should apply for the CCTB as soon as possible after your child
is born. At our free private sessions and seminars we will provide you with the
CCTB guideline table.
Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB)The UCCB program issues a
taxable $100.00 monthly payment to families for each child under the age of six
to help cover the cost of child care. The UCCB program is automatic when you
register for the CCTB. You may consider using this for your child's Registered
Education Savings Plan.
Prepare a WillThough costs can vary from $500.00 to $2,000.00, it is
especially important now to draw up a will designating a guardian for your child
should you and your spouse die together. If you or your spouse dies without a
will (intestate), a judge decides who will be appointed your child's guardian. |
